OK so you've got to face it now is the time for every type of Christmas event and for those who don't get into the Christmas spirit we imagine a miserable time of year.
The shops are all playing "Ding Dong Merrily on High" and have festooned their walls, shelves and tills with a profusion of tinsel and flashing lights and of course our streets are lined with eager little faces as a myriad of Santa's emerge for their annual Parade down every main street across the country!
Soooo... let's tell you just a snippet of what is in store for this coming week ...
Starting the month off with a bang (or is that a puff!) is the Porirua Santa Fun Run on tonight at Eldson Park. A bunch of Santas are running (or you can walk) to Cobham Court around the Porirua Harbour to "Help Move Christmas"! If you're in the area grab your Santa suit and join them from 5.30 pm!
Tomorrow, 2 December, you can enjoy the Go Geraldine Christmas Parade. For those who don't know Geraldine it's is considered the gateway to the Southern Lakes and has a boutique village atmosphere. This year their parade will be followed by entertainment in the Domain as well as the Best Floats prize giving and Santa Sack draw!
Starting on Saturday is the Cambridge Christmas Festival which runs daily until 17 December - decorations, stalls, Christmas Parade, Santa, home baked eats and lots more, so get into the Christmas spirit and make a gold coin donation. All proceeds go into local Charities and groups and last year over $25,000 was distributed back into the local community!
All weekend long there are Parades and Festivals including Blenheim, Browns Bay, Onerahi, Devonport, Palmerston North and more (check our listings) ... Two worth a mention are the Upper Hutt Merry Movie Santa Parade. Floats will have a movie theme such as a classic Christmas film, or a modern interpretation of how a non-Christmas movie might celebrate the occasion or lots more.
This year is also a special year in Riccarton with the 70th Anniversary Santa Parade. For over 69 years the Christchurch Santa Parade has brought joy to the children of Christchurch and surrounds. With a history of fun, excitement and fantasy this year will, of course, be no exception.
So come on everybody pop on your Santa hat, ladies slip on your twinkling Christmas earrings and get out and about now its summer to enjoy your local parade. For details on what is on this week check out our Linku2 Markets | Annual Events | December - we are adding to this every day!
What could be more fun than wandering around your local market. Fresh baking smells, lovingly handcrafted items, each one unique and special, delicious home grown produce - that's what we love and we hope you do too!
